Rashid Khan’s heroic score of 79(32) was insufficient as Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Titans by a margin of 27 runs.
Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya lamented that only Rashid Khan from his team showed up for the game and that their bowling appeared lifeless after his team’s 27-run loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
The Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Titans by 27 runs
On Friday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Rashid Khan’s 79(32) score was a valiant effort, but it was insufficient.
“It seemed like Rashid was the only member of our team who showed up. Both his bowling and batting performances were outstanding. After this outcome, you won’t need to try very hard. We weren’t there as a group. We were also extremely uninterested in bowling.”
“Had unclear plans or failed to carry them out. Although I thought we gave 25 runs more than necessary, the wicket was very flat. I have said enough about Surya. One of the top batters in 20-over cricket. You witnessed what could occur if your plans were not carried out. Being clear when you bowl is crucial to me.”
“Only the fields can be set. We lacked a lot of heart and execution. This cost us the game. Additionally, the intensity was dull. Expected things to happen, but everyone is aware that at this level things do not just happen, Hardik said in a post-match presentation.”
GT elected to bat first, and MI scored 218/5 off of their 20 overs. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, the opening pair, got things going quickly with a 61-run opening stand (31 off 20 balls and 29 off 18 balls, respectively).
Rashid Khan, however, removed the openers and Nehal Wadhera (15), bringing MI to 88/3. After that, it was all Suryakukar Yadav. Together with Vishnu Vinod (30 off 20 balls), he put up a 65-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Suryakumar eventually scored his first IPL century, a 103* score off 49 balls that included 11 fours and 6 sixes.
The bowler that GT chose was Rashid Khan (4/30). Additionally, Mohit Sharma took a wicket.
GT immediately started losing wickets as they attempted to chase 219. Despite a knock of 29 runs from Vijay Shankar, they were reduced to 55/5. However, a 45-run partnership between David Miller (41 in 26 balls) and Rahul Tewatia (14 in 13 balls) enabled GT to reach three figures.
Rashid Khan was the one to continue the fight after they were expelled. His sixes assisted in cutting the margin and prevented his side’s net-run rate from suffering even though the side appeared to be out of the game.
Three fours and ten sixes were part of the Afghan all-rounder’s 79* in just 32 balls. To help GT reach 191/8 in their 20 overs, he and Alzarri Joseph (7*) put on an 88-run stand for the ninth wicket. MI defeated the opponent by 27 runs.
The bowler selected by MI was Akash Madhwal (3/31). Piyush Chawla (2/36) carried on with his impressive IPL 2023 performance as well. A wicket was also earned by Jason Behrendorff.
Due to his century that won the match, Suryakumar was named “Man of the Match.”.
With this victory, MI has seven wins and five losses, placing them in third place overall in the points table. They score a total of 12 points. With eight wins and four losses, GT is still at the top. They are at 16 points overall.
