Karun Nair will take KL Rahul’s place for the remaining IPL 2023 season, the Lucknow Super Giants announced on Friday, May 5. Due to a thigh injury, he sustained, Rahul was told that the rest of the season was over. Rahul will actually require surgery, which will keep him out of commission for a while.

Prior to Lucknow’s upcoming match against the defending champion Gujarat Titans on Sunday in Ahmedabad, Karun Nair, who went unsold at the IPL 2023 auction, will join the team.

Karun Nair has played in 76 IPL games and has 1496 runs to his credit.

Karun Nair, a player for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL in 2022, went through a rough period in the league, scoring just 37 runs over the course of the last four seasons after sitting out the 2021 season.

When their game against Chennai Super Kings was postponed on Wednesday, Krunal Pandya led the Lucknow Super Giants in KL Rahul’s absence. KL Rahul was in the dugout, but on Friday he announced on social media that he would be missing the rest of the IPL 2023 season and the World Test Championships championship match.

KL Rahul expressed his regret at missing the World Tennis Championship final, which will take place in London starting on June 7 and feature Australia, in a heartfelt post on social media.

“I’ll soon be having surgery on my thigh, it has been decided after careful deliberation and discussion with the medical staff. In the upcoming weeks, I’ll concentrate on my recovery and rehabilitation. It’s a difficult decision, but I know it’s the right one to guarantee a full recovery,” KL Rahul said.

“The fact that I can’t be there at this crucial time as the team captain causes me great pain. But I’m sure the boys will rise and deliver their usual top-notch performance. Every game, I’ll be watching with you all and supporting them from the stands. Lucknow Super Giants.”

“That I won’t be attending the Oval with Team India next month makes me feel absolutely gutted. I’ll exert every effort to rejoin the blue and support my nation. That has always been my main concern and top priority,” KL Rahul again shared.

With 11 points from 10 matches, LSG is in second place in the IPL 2023 points standings. On Sunday, they’ll compete against GT in Ahmedabad.
