Saha and Shubhman Gill put up a partnership of 142 runs for the Gujarat Titans
As both the batters played an explosive inning which helped the team to put up a humongous total of 227 runs. Wriddhiman Saha, the opening batter for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, scored a half-century in the quickest time ever. Saha’s side got off to a fast start against the Lucknow Super Giants thanks to his 20-ball fifty.
The GT all-rounder Vijay Shankar was surpassed by Saha to claim the title of batter with the fastest fifty. At the Narendra Modi Stadium this season, Shankar scored a fifty against the Kolkata Knight Riders on 24 balls.
When Saha hit LSG pacer Mohsin Khan for back-to-back boundaries in the first over, the innings got off to an excellent start. In the very next over, he faced Avesh Khan and destroyed him with a six and a boundary. In the fourth over, Mohsin Khan was brought back into the attack, and Saha went after him again, hitting him twice for sixes and twice for fours.
In his quick-fire opening partnership with Shubman Gill, Saha was the aggressor and in just 20 balls, he reached his first half-century of the year by smashing Yash Thakur for a huge six. In a crucial home game, his quick fifty helped GT start off perfect and score 78 runs while on the powerplay.
With this performance, Saha tied Kyle Mayers of LSG and Punjab Kings at the PCA Stadium in Mohali for the highest individual score in the powerplay with 54 runs off 23 balls.
Prerak Mankad’s outstanding catch of Saha’s delivery from Avesh Khan right on the deep square leg boundary prevented Saha from becoming the first centurion for GT. Saha was looking on track to accomplish this feat. The 38-year-old continued to bat, eventually scoring 81 runs off 43 deliveries, smashing 10 boundaries and four sixes. His season total now stands at 273 runs across 11 games.
Shubman Gill’s successful run with the bat has been credited by Gujarat Titans wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha as the reason for his success as an opener in the current IPL 2023. Saha claims that “the young opener makes batting at the other end easier. In addition to having a fantastic last three months in international cricket, Gill has significantly improved his T20 performance.”
“Shubman is in the best shape of his life. Batting with him is so simple. We are aware that I, Shubman, and Sai (Sudharsan), the third batsman, must all perform well if the Gujarat Titans are to succeed. The team’s task then becomes simpler as a result, Saha told reporters in a virtual interaction.”
“But when Shubman is present, I can easily play my natural game. It gets simpler for batters like Sai, Vijay, and me as Shubman scores early. The other end of the approach is much simpler,” Saha said.
