It has been over a week since Royal Challengers Bangalore played Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in the IPL 2023. Gambhir was enraged with Kohli for various reasons.
But it all started when the latter insulted Kyle Mayers following his dismissal in the match on May 1. The game drew attention to the ugly scene when LSG coach Gautam Gambhir got into an altercation with RCB star Virat Kohli shortly after the game ended.
Even though the incident has been condemned by seasoned cricketers. Kohli and Gambhir have each been fined severely and forfeited their entire match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
Prior to their ugly altercation, Kohli and Gambhir spoke for 45 minutes in Bengaluru
Going back to the May 1 incident. There was a heated exchange between Kohli and LSG player Naveen-ul-Haq in the game’s closing moments due to the former RCB captain’s words and actions. Which prompted the umpire and another LSG player, Amit Mishra, to intervene.
As things became tenser at the Ekana Stadium, Kohli and Gambhir later got into an infamous altercation. That called for the assistance of other players to separate the two. For violating the IPL Code of Conduct, the BCCI later docked all three players with sizable fines.
According to a Dainik Jagran report from Monday. The entire LSG team management was “shocked” by what had happened. After seeing Gambhir and assistant coach Vijay Dahiya speak with them.
According to the report, Kohli’s verbal abuse of Kyle Mayers following the latter’s dismissal in the match on May 1 was the initial cause of Gambhir’s enmity for Kohli.
And later, when Naveen was batting, Kohli said, “You don’t know me, who I am,” while pointing at him and revealing the grass in his shoes. Before turning to Mohammed Siraj and ordering him to “Hit the ball on his head”.
The ball was then purposefully struck on the stumps by Siraj. In front of the BCCI representative, Kohli refuted this claim. Claiming that he had instructed Siraj to strike a bouncer instead of Naveen’s head.
According to the report, Gambhir had also appealed to the BCCI, saying, “I want to give him a send-off,” after becoming furious over Kohli’s remarks. He needs to leave this area, and I want to do that”.
It was also mentioned that Kohli had later complained to the LSG team management about Naveen’s combative demeanour. And also told the BCCI official that it was never his fault.
