Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant century against the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League‘s (IPL) 1000th match at his home stadium, the Wankhede Stadium. With that accomplishment, the Rajasthan Royals’ first-rounder became the third-youngest Indian batter to register a century in the competition.
On April 30, Jaiswal led his team to a total of 214 by himself, demonstrating incredible maturity and responsibility. With 428 runs from nine games and a 124-run performance, he now holds the tournament scoring record. He currently holds the fourth-highest score in IPL history for an Indian batter.
Let’s look at the top five individual Indian batters’ scores in the IPL:
1. KL Rahul 132* vs RCB
The record for the highest individual score by an Indian batter in the IPL belongs to KL Rahul. Despite the fact that he has four centuries in the tournament, his unbeaten 132 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore while representing the Punjab Kings stands out from the rest.
The current Lucknow Super Giants captain scored 132 in 69 balls and reached his century in 62 balls, hitting 14 fours and seven sixes. He took his time before fluidly shifting gears to put his team in the lead after the game on a slow surface.
Rahul received the Player of the Match honour for his efforts as Punjab Kings ultimately prevailed by 97 runs.
2) Rishabh Pant 128* vs SRH
When he scored 128 off 63 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018, Rishabh Pant became the second-youngest player to score a century in the IPL. In that innings, the Delhi left-hander displayed his true colours by ruthlessly punishing the bowlers across the entire field.
He helped the Delhi Daredevils reach 187/5 after 20 overs with a strike rate of 203.17, 15 fours, seven sixes, and seven runs. Sadly, his knock came in a losing cause as the Sunrisers Hyderabad successfully chased down the target thanks to half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson.
3. Murali Vijay 127 vs RR
Murali Vijay has two centuries in the IPL, despite his reputation for excellence in the longest format for the Indian team. His score of 127 off 56 balls against the Rajasthan Royals ranks third among Indian batters in the IPL and was an excellent knock.
The Chennai Super Kings opener put on an absolute display against the Rajasthan Royals, scoring at a strike rate of 226.78, hitting eight fours and 11 sixes. His century helped CSK reach 246/5, which ultimately resulted in a 23-run victory. Because of his play in that game, Vijay was given the Player of the Match award.
4. Yashasvi Jaiswal 124 vs MI
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played in the IPL’s 1000th game, put on a spectacular performance at his home stadium, Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The 21-year-old batsman single-handedly led his team to a total of 212/7 with 124 runs off just 62 deliveries.
The fact that no other Mumbai Indians batter scored more than 18 runs added to the significance of the innings. The Rajasthan Royals’ opener, who hit 16 fours and 8 sixes while striking at a rate of 200, completed his century in 53 balls.
5. Virender Sehwag 122 vs CSK
In the IPL, Virender Sehwag, who is typically aggressive and destructive, has scored a couple of half-centuries. In a tight match against the Chennai Super Kings during Qualifier 2 in 2014, the Kings XI Punjab opening batsman scored 122 off 58 balls, which was his highest total of the competition.
In that innings, Sehwag scored his century in just fifty balls while hitting 12 fours and 8 sixes. He was extremely harsh on the CSK bowlers, as evidenced by his strike rate of 210 points per 34 balls. After batting first, his contribution enabled Punjab to score 226/6.
In response, CSK could only score 202/7, largely due to a sensational cameo from Suresh Raina, who scored 87 off 25 balls. Sehwag, who received the Player of the Match honours, largely overshadowed that.
