Even in the first over of LSG’s innings, the former Indian vice-captain was unable to start his innings. Boult gave RR a strong start at Jaipur and LSG captain Rahul received trolling online after the star batter failed to step it up in the first over.
A supporter criticized KL Rahul on Twitter, writing, “KL Rahul started with a maiden over in powerplay once again, a perfect start for the academy. “When you open with KL Rahul, you bat for 19 overs,” another fan bemoaned.
By allowing no runs to be scored in the very first over of the game, Boult interestingly tied Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s extraordinary achievement. In the IPL, Boult (8) has bowled the joint-most first-over maidens.
Following Boult and Bhuvneshwar is former Indian pacer Praveen Kumar, who bowled seven first-over maidens in the lucrative league. At Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Boult bowled four overs against Rahul’s LSG and only allowed 16 runs to be scored. In the 12th over, the New Zealand pacer also secured the crucial dismissal of Ayush Badoni.
Speaking more specifically about the game, Rahul fell short of scoring his second IPL 2023 half-century by scoring 39 off 32 balls. Jason Holder gave up 37 runs in four overs and bowled out the Indian opener.
Lucknow Super Giants were able to reach 154-7 in 20 overs. Thanks to the tenacious half-century by Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran’s quick-fire knock of 28 off 20 balls. As the RR star took two wickets and gave up 23 runs in four overs, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as the top bowler.
