Shardul Thakur produced a brilliant knock in the first innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 6 April 2023 in the IPL 202.
Thakur came at the crease with Kolkata Knight Riders struggling at 98 for 5 with Andre Russell dismissed without opening his account off Karn Sharma’s bowling. It was a superb knock by Thakur putting enough pressure on Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers right from word go and did not allow them to settle.
Thakur just batted with positive intent keeping the pressure on Royal Challengers Bangalore especially Bracewell and Karn Sharma. It was just superb batting by Thakur completing his fifty off just 20 deliveries keeping the momentum going for KKR along with Rinku Singh.
Mohammed Siraj eventually got rid of Shardul Thakur with a simple catch to Maxwell. Shardul Thakur was dismissed for 68 off 29 deliveries with 9 fours and 3 sixes helping KKR post 204 for 7 in 20 overs. Shardul and Rinku Singh added
Rahmanullah Gurbaz looked in fine touch putting the bad deliveries away for boundaries. David Willey struck twice off successive balls getting rid of Venetaksh Iyer and Mandeep Singh. Gurbaz showed his intent as KKR scored 47 for 2 at the end of 6 overs.
Soon after the field restrictions, Bracewell dismissed Nitish Rana via review. The umpire gave not out but on review, it was overturned to out as it hit the gloves. Gurbaz showed his class keeping the momentum going for KKR. He was given out by the umpire and it was overturned to not out as it hit gloves.
Gurbaz completed his maiden IPL fifty off 38 deliveries to keep KKR in the hunt. Karn Sharma struck twice off successive balls getting Gurbaz and Andre Russell making matters worst for the hosts. Shardul Thakur registered his best-ever T20 score helping KKR post a big total.
