KL Rahul scored 68 in 61 balls but his team lost to GT by seven runs despite being in a winning position.
Lucknow Super Giants suffered one of the most shocking losses of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. After failing to complete his 68 points off of 61 balls. LSG captain KL Rahul was knocked down and his strike rate has come under increased scrutiny.
Rahul scored 30 runs off of his first 12 balls but then drastically slowed down, managing only 18 runs off of his final 23 deliveries. LSG played the entire 20 overs without scoring a boundary after the 13th. The LSG captain admitted he had no idea what had happened or how his team had lost the match.
Ufff , how could you lose that.
Brilliant from Gujarat. Outstanding bowling and captaincy to defend that . #LSGvGT— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) April 22, 2023
It happened but I have no idea how it did. We lost 2 points today; I’m not sure where it went wrong, but that’s cricket, he said. Rahul claimed that he wasn’t actually trying to play the game to its conclusion.
I wasn’t really trying to bat deep; I still wanted to play my shots and challenge the bowlers because we were already comfortably ahead in the game. But Noor and Jayant bowled well in that 2-3 over the span. With wickets in hand, perhaps we ought to have taken a few more chances, he said.
When criticizing Rahul on Twitter, former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad did not hold back. “Baffling batting is required when 30 runs are needed off of 35 balls and 9 wickets are still in play. Punjab lost a few games in 2020 that they should have easily won.
Rahul has received harsh criticism from Prasad recently regarding his selection in the Indian Test team prior to his dismissal as vice-captain and expulsion from the team.
Former India players Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh also commented on the astounding outcome. The Gujarat Titans’ head coach Ashish Nehra was also called out by Harbhajan, who also expressed his surprise at the turnaround.
With eight points after seven games, LSG missed the opportunity to take the lead in the standings. GT, on the other hand, has amassed eight points in as many games and is currently fourth in the standings.
Next up for GT is a Tuesday home game against the Mumbai Indians. On April 28, LSG travels to Mohali to play Punjab Kings away from home.
