IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag Opines On Rohit Sharma’s Poor Form

In his last two innings, Rohit Sharma was dismissed for back-to-back ducks and he hasn’t scored in the double digits in his last four innings in the IPL 2023.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians has struggled with mediocre IPL performance for the past three seasons. And has been unable to improve on it.

Just 184 runs have been scored by Rohit in 10 innings. With a strike rate of 126 points per 90 pitches and an average of 18 points. In his last four innings, he has failed to record a double-digit score.

Rohit Sharma has been going through a rough patch

Mumbai Indians, a five-time IPL champion has had his last two innings ended by duck dismissals. According to former India opener Virender Sehwag, Rohit’s issue appears to be more of a mental than a technical one.

“Rather than battling the bowlers, Rohit Sharma is battling himself. The mental blockage is present. His batting technique is flawless. At this moment, his mind is a little fuzzy. We will make up for all of the prior games”, he said on ESPNCricinfo, the day he starts playing.

Rohit’s average strike rate results have been somewhat of a selling point for MI for a while now. Only once in 2018 has Rohit’s strike rate for the season surpassed 129 since the 2016 campaign.

With a strike rate of 120 points per game and an average of just 19 points per game. Rohit managed to score just 268 runs in 14 games last season. For the first time in his IPL career, he went an entire season without tallying a half-century.

The match between the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday will pit two of the most productive batters in Indian cricket over the past ten years—Rohit and Virat Kohli—against one another.

But in the current competition, the two legendary batters are experiencing very different journeys. While Virat is in fantastic form and scoring runs profusely, Rohit has struggled to find runs this season.

The team is not concerned with their captain’s form, according to MI all-arounder Cameron Green, who opened the batting for MI in their most recent game instead of Rohit.

When asked if there had been any discussion about Rohit’s form within the MI camp, Green responded, “Absolutely not. We actually support Rohit, who is a legend known for his work in Mumbai and throughout his career. He had the option of resuming the form at any time. We wholeheartedly support him because he has batted beautifully in a few games and displayed excellent tempo at the top.”
