Sisanda Magala played his debut IPL debut and looked ordinary in the first two overs before picking up the wicket of Stubbs. It was a disciplined bowling effort by CSK bowlers as they restricted Mumbai Indians to just 157 for 8. For CSK, Tushar Deshpande and Mitchell Santer took 2 wickets each while Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of bowlers with 3 for 20 putting brakes on the MI batting line-up.
Chennai Super Kings chased down the target easily.
Chasing 158 runs to win, Chennai Super Kings got off to a terrible start as they lost an early wicket of Devon Conway taking an inside edge onto the stumps. Ajiyanka Rahane came to the crease and put pressure on Mumbai Indians bowlers with positive stroke play keeping the momentum going for CSK. Rahane toyed with MI bowling especially against Arshad Khan hitting him with quick runs not allowing them to settle.
At the end of the first six overs, CSK raced away to 68 for 1. Ajiyanka Rahane completed the fastest fifty this season off 19 deliveries to put enough pressure on MI bowlers. Rahane’s brilliance came to an end dismissed for 61. Rahane and Gaikwad added 82 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Shivam Dube took the charge keeping CSK on course for a win. On other hand, Gaikwad looked comfortable keeping the strike rotating. Dube and Gaikwad added 43 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rayudu struggled initially but completed the formalities along with Gaikwad. Gaikwad and Rayudu added unbeaten 34 runs for the 4th wicket to help CSK chase down the target with 11 balls to spare.
With this win, Chennai Super Kings registered their 2nd successive win of the tournament and would look to continue their winning momentum.
