Punjab Kings stunned Lucknow Super Giants in a thrilling encounter played at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow on 15 April 2023 in the IPL 2023. PBKS stand-in captain Sam Curran won the toss and elected to field first. Kyle Mayers looked in aggressive touch putting pressure on PBKS bowlers along with KL Rahul. At the end of the first six overs, LSG openers made 49 for 0.
Harpreet Brar got the breakthrough dismissing Mayers with a good catch by Harpreet Singh. Mayers and KL Rahul added 53 runs for the opening wicket. It was a disappointing effort as Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, and Nicolas Pooran fell in quick succession. On other hand, KL Rahul showed some form with aggressive shots keeping the scoreboard ticking.
KL Rahul got his first fifty this season off 40 deliveries to keep LSG for a decent total. The stand-in captain Sam Curran delivered the goods for PBKS with wickets at the end dismissing Marcus Stoinis via review for caught behind. The umpire gave it not out but on review it was overturned to out as it hit the gloves.
Arshdeep Singh dismissed well-set KL Rahul caught at long-on. Curran got wickets of impact player Krishnappa Gowtham and Yudhvir Singh off successive deliveries. It was a disciplined bowling effort as PBKS restricted LSG to 159 for 8 in 20 overs.
LSG bowlers could not defend the target
The debutant Yudhvir Singh got off to a perfect start as he dismissed PBKS debutant, Atharva Taide. He then produced another beauty to dismiss impact player Prabhsimran Singh leaving PBKS in trouble.
Matthew Short looked impressive showing intent and putting pressure on LSG bowlers. Right before the end of field restriction overs, Krishnappa Gowtham dismissed Short with a simple catch to Stoinis at mid-off.
Sikandar Raza showed his aggressive intent putting pressure on LSG bowlers with boundaries and sixes to ease pressure on PBKS batters. Raza put pressure on Krunal Pandya making life tough for the LSG captain. Ravi Bishnoi was introduced in the 15th over and struck dismissing Sam Curran caught by Krunal Pandya at long-off. Sam and Raza added 37 runs for the 5th wicket.
KL Rahul took a stunning diving catch at mid-off in the 16th over to dismiss Jitesh Sharma. Sikandar Raza completed his maiden IPL fifty off 34 deliveries to keep PBKS on course. Shahrukh came to the crease hitting some big shots to ease the pressure.

Ravi Bishnoi struck to dismiss well-set Raza. With 7 runs required off the final over, Shahrukh Khan held onto his nerves helping Punjab Kings win the match by 2 wickets and 3 balls to spare. For his 57 off 41 deliveries and 1 for 19, Sikandar Raza was named the player of the match.
