Virat Kohli, the batsman for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), did everything in his power to advance his team to the IPL 2023 Playoff, but on Sunday even his valor wasn’t enough.
Shubman Gill’s second consecutive hundred for Gujarat Titans propelled the defending champions to a six-wicket victory over RCB in their final league match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, preventing the home team from making it to the Playoffs stage.
Virat Kohli scored his second consecutive IPL century, setting a record seventh century in the T20 league.
Due to RCB’s exit, Mumbai Indians, who had earlier in the day defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad, qualified as the fourth team, behind Lucknow Super Giants, Chennai Super Kings, and GT.
As Gill smashed 104 off 52 balls to ensure a GT with five balls to spare, Kohli, who had just scored a brilliant 101 off 61 balls with 13 fours and 1 six to lead RCB to 197 for 5, began to cry.

However, Kohli revealed that he is once again playing at his peak level in T20 cricket after breaking former West Indies opener Chris Gayle’s IPL record for most hundreds.
“Yeah, I felt great. I don’t feel like my T20 cricket is getting worse, despite what many people think. I believe that my T20 cricket performance has improved. This is how I play T20 cricket, and I’m just having fun.”
When the mid-innings break came around, Kohli spoke to former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri, saying, “I look to hit gaps, hit a lot of boundaries and the big ones in the end if the situation allows me to. “
“Strike rates, among other things of the sort, are also discussed here. It’s important to read the situation and step up when necessary. I take great pride in being able to do this and have been doing it for a while. I feel really good about my current game and the way I’m batting in the middle,” Kohli continued.
While speaking, Gill, who just scored his second IPL century, stressed the importance of turning knocks into “big ones.”. “It all comes down to making a small beginning into a significant one.”
“Thankfully, it’s going well for me professionally. It’s crucial that you continue to put effort forth. The fresh ball was barely hanging on. The ball was becoming damp from the dew. I believed Vijay Shankar was attempting to do too much. He hit it far after gaining momentum. I am aware of my tactics. Knowing who you are is crucial for any player. Gill stated at the post-game presentation, I think our bowling attack is excellent for that (Chennai) wicket.”
At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, Gill and GT will now play MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1.
