The left-arm pace bowler from Australia, Mitchell Starc has decided to give his name in the Indian Premier League 2024 auction. He will return to IPL action after a gap of 9 years. This will be an ideal preparation for every player as the teams would focus on the T20 World Cup to be held West Indies and the United States of America next year.
Mitchell Starc was a part of the winning team that won their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2021. He has been the backbone of the Australian bowling lineup in all formats. Starc has given preference to Australia and withdrawn from the IPL due to that. He played only two seasons of IPL in 2014 and 2015. His performances in those two editions looked impressive.
During the 2014 edition, Starc grabbed 14 wickets from 14 matches at an economy of 7.49 runs per over and best figures of 2 for 21. He then featured in the 2015 edition picking up 20 wickets from 13 matches at an economy of 6.76 runs per over. The teams will look to strengthen their armoury by purchasing Mitchell Starc.
Here we look at the 3 Teams that Can Buy Mitchell Starc in IPL 2024 auction.
- Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings became the Champions of IPL 2023 for the record fifth time by beating Gujarat Titans in thrilling finals. During last year’s IPL, CSK struggled with their bowling initially with Sisanda Magala ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
Matheesha Pathirana bowled brilliantly in the death and provided some stability. Starc could be an ideal choice to open with Deepak Chahar with a new ball. Ben Stokes will likely skip the tournament and Ambati Rayudu decided to retire. Mitchell Starc will give strength to the bowling attack and make life tough for the opponent batters. It would be a major boost for CSK if Starc could be added to their title defence.
- Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore is another franchise that could buy him in the IPL 2024 auction. He has featured for RCB for both seasons. Starc was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2018 edition but withdrew due to hectic multi-format for Australia.
Mitchell Starc could be an ideal option for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2024 IPL. With Josh Hazlewood struggling with injuries, the RCB franchise could buy him again and prove to be a lethal bowling combination along with Mohammed Siraj. The bowling department of RCB struggled in 2023 with Siraj being the leading wicket-taker including 19 wickets from 14 matches at an economy of 7.50 runs per over with best figures of 4/21.
- Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders struggled with their bowling in IPL 2023. They went all guns blazing in the 2018 edition of IPL but due to international commitments, he decided to withdraw from the tournament.
Varun Chakvarthy was the pick of bowlers for KKR in IPL 2023 with 20 wickets from 14 matches at an economy of 8.14 runs per over. It was a disappointing outing for the likes of Tim Southee, and Lockie Ferguson struggling with fitness while Pat Cummins performed well with the bat instead of the ball in the 2022 edition.
The conditions at Eden Gardens, Kolkata help the pace bowlers. With only Shardul Thakur as the experienced bowler, Mitchell Starc would give him a boost. KKR finished disappointing 7th in the 2023 edition of IPL. They made it into the finals of the 2021 IPL edition but could not qualify for the 2022 and 2023 editions.
