The Indian Premier League 2024 is ending its near with all teams having a chance to qualify for the playoff stage. Mumbai Indians became the first team to be eliminated after SRH’s big win over LSG.
Two or three teams are comfortably placed to qualify for the playoffs while the middle table is packed. All the matches from now on become important for all teams.
Here we look at the qualification scenarios of all teams:
- Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders are comfortably placed at the top of the points table with 16 from 11 games. They need just one win to qualify for the playoff stage. With 3 matches left in the league stage, KKR would be hoping to win most matches to certain top two spots and qualifier 1 spot.
KKR has won 8 matches so far and lost 3. They will play Mumbai Indians in their next match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
- Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals have the same number of points as KKR, but to a lower run rate, RR slipped down to 2nd in the points table. RR lost their last two matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.
They would be hoping to return to winning ways and need just one win from the three matches left to qualify for the playoff stage.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed to third place after a commanding 10-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants. They can ensure their qualification with wins in their next two games.
If they win either one of them, the qualification could be down to the net run rate which holds at + 0.406. They will play Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings at Hyderabad.
- Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings has been inconsistent so far this season. They played a total of 11 matches with 6 wins and 5 losses. CSK has 3 matches left against Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals and RCB.
A win in the remaining three matches would help them qualify for the playoff stage directly without any difficulty. Two wins and their NRR could be in focus. The five-time Champions CSK has a solid net run rate of + 0.700.
- Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals has been on a roll so far. They climbed to fifth place in the points table after their win over Rajasthan Royals. Pant and Co need to win the remaining two matches against RCB and LSG to stay in contention.
They would hope that SRH or CSK will lose at least one of their remaining matches. Delhi Capitals net run rate is currently at -0.316.
- Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants slipped down to number 6th place in the points table after their shocking loss to SRH by 10 wickets. Their hopes of reaching the playoff stage were dented big time. They have two games left in the league stage against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians.
They can get to 16 points if they win their remaining two games. Their net run rate suffered a lot that went down to – 0.769. LSG will look to keep an eye on the performance of the top four teams.
- RCB
Royal Challengers Bengaluru has shown tremendous consistency in winning their last three matches. They can get to 14 points if they win their last three matches against Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and CSK.
RCB needs to improve its run rate as it stands at -0.049. They would hope that SRH, CSK, Delhi Capitals, or Lucknow Super Giants drop one game each. RCB cannot afford a loss as they will be knocked out.
- Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings have the same situation as RCB. They still have three matches left and can get to 14 points if they win their remaining three matches. Their net run rate is -0.187.
Punjab Kings will play against RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals. They need to win all three matches and hope that other results go their way to stake a claim in the playoff stage.
- Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians became the first team to be knocked out of the IPL 2024 after SRH’s 10-wicket win over LSG. They can get up to 12 points if they win their remaining two matches against Lucknow Super Giants and KKR.
MI will look to salvage pride as they would look to win their last two matches and come from the bottom place.
- Gujarat Titans
The 2022 IPL champions Gujarat Titans struggled badly under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. They are currently at number 10th place with a net run rate of -1.320.
GT will face Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last three matches of this season. It will be very hard to beat these teams and loss would keep them out of the playoff stage.
