Chennai Super Kings began the season with a thumping 6-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match of the season on 22nd March at M Chidrabam Stadium, Chennai. The Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was brilliant with his bowling. He did not allow the RCB bowlers to score runs but also picked important wickets.
Rahman got rid of Faf Du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli and Cameron Green. He bowled with great control in the death overs as Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat showed their class to help RCB post 173 for 6 in 20 overs. CSK won the match easily by 6 wickets despite losing wickets. Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja ensured that the defending champions CSK started the tournament on a winning note.
Rahman was bought by Chennai Super Kings for a base price of Rs 2 Crore in the IPL auction. During the encounter, his jersey caught the attention of fans who did not have the logo that was present on the rest of the CSK players. SJ Alcohol Brand is a corporate sponsor of the franchise. The left-arm Bangladesh bowler did not want to wear an alcohol brand on the jersey.
He is not the first player to decline wearing an alcohol brand logo on his jersey due to his religious background. Star cricketers like Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, and Rashid Khan wore jerseys that did not have logos of alcohol or that affected the health of a person.
Chennai Super Kings to face Gujarat Titans
Chennai Super Kings will face Gujarat Titans in the repeat of the 2023 IPL finals. CSK registered last ball thriller thanks to Ravindra Jadeja’s brilliance. CSK and GT met in the qualifier 1 which was won by CSK comfortably.
Gujarat Titans thrashed Mumbai Indians in the qualifier 2 and progressed into the finals. Both teams are coming off with a victory. CSK defeated RCB by six wickets while GT stunned MI by 6 runs.
It promises to be a closely fought encounter as match number 7 will be played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 26th March 2024.
