Mumbai Indians received a major boost as star batter Suryakumar Yadav joined the squad ahead of their match against Delhi Capitals on 7th April at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
The 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians lost the first three matches of this tournament so far. They lost their first match against Gujarat Titans by six runs. They could not score 169 runs as Hardik Pandya could not finish the game.
After this, their bowling attack was smashed for 277 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite the batting effort, Mumbai Indians fell short of the target by 31 runs. Their third match saw MI batting struggle posting 125 for 9 in 20 overs as RR chased down target easily.
Mumbai Indians are currently at the bottom of the points table and would look to start their winning start against Delhi Capitals on 7th April 2024.
Hardik Pandya has been named as the captain for Mumbai Indians replacing Rohit Sharma. MI missed the services of Suryakumar Yadav in the first three matches which resulted in losses.
Suryakumar Yadav played a key role for Mumbai Indians in the 2023 edition of IPL. He was the leading run-getter last year with 605 runs from 16 matches (16 innings) including the best score of 103 not out. His batting efforts led MI to qualify for the playoff stage.
Surya scored 1 century and 5 half-centuries in the entire tournament. Mumbai Indians lost in the Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans. The star T20I batter will be eager to showcase his batting skills and help MI recover from the slump.
Suryakumar Yadav is likely to create an impact in their batting
Suryakumar Yadav has joined Mumbai Indians camp after doing rehabilitation after missing the first three matches due to injury. He played his last match against South Africa at Johannesburg in December last year. Surya sustained an ankle injury during that game after scoring a record-breaking 5th century in the T20I format.
He underwent surgery for sports hernia that ruled him out of the T20I series against Afghanistan at home this year. It will be interesting to see if Suryakumar could leave the same impact in 2023 after recovering from an injury.
