IPL 2024: Jasprit Bumrah And Quinton de Kock Sit Out MI vs LSG Match, Here’s Why?

In Match 67 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians (MI) faced off against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on May 17. MI won the toss and chose to field. Notably, MI rested their key bowler Jasprit Bumrah, bringing in Arjun Tendulkar instead.

LSG made two significant changes to their lineup: Devdutt Padikkal replaced Quinton de Kock, who has been struggling with form, and Matt Henry took the place of Yudhvir Singh Charak.

Hardik Pandya at the toss said: “We’re going to bowl. Chasing is better in Wankhede. It comes on nicer in the evening. It’s always about playing for the badge, playing for pride – all those words are important in the group. We know where we stand. But ending the season playing good cricket will always be appreciated. It gives us more freedom maybe to go out there and express ourselves.”

KL Rahul said: “Quinton misses out, Devdutt comes in. Matt Henry comes in. Those are the big changes. Obviously disappointed. We started well in the season. A couple of weeks ago we were sitting in the top four. But that’s how the tournament is. It’s an opportunity today to come out and play our best cricket and entertain the crowd.”

LSG faced a daunting task, needing to defeat MI by over 300 runs to keep their playoff hopes alive, a scenario reflected in KL Rahul’s disappointed tone at the toss. The LSG playing XI included KL Rahul (captain and wicketkeeper), Devdutt Padikkal, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Arshad Khan, Matt Henry, Ravi Bishnoi, and Mohsin Khan. The LSG impact substitutes were Naveen-ul-Haq, Ashton Turner, Manimaran Siddharth, Prerak Mankad, and Krishnappa Gowtham.

The Mumbai Indians’ lineup featured Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav, Dewald Brevis, Hardik Pandya (captain), Nehal Wadhera, Romario Shepherd, Anshul Kamboj, Piyush Chawla, Arjun Tendulkar, and Nuwan Thushara.
