Mumbai Indians will host Rajasthan Royals in the first home game at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 1st April 2024. It promises to be an exciting encounter as MI will look to register their first tournament win after two losses to Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals will be high on confidence as they registered their 2nd win with an impressive performance against Delhi Capitals at home. This will be the first away game and look to continue their winning momentum.
Both teams have quality players who can change the course of the match with their abilities.
Here we look at the 3 key player battles between MI and RR in match number 14 of IPL 2024.
- Rohit Sharma vs Trent Boult
Rohit Sharma looked in sublime touch during the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He provided a flying start but could not convert it into a big score. It promises to be an interesting battle between Rohit Sharma and Boult.
Boult has troubled Rohit Sharma with his swinging abilities. Rohit Sharma needs to get off to a good start in the first six overs, especially against Boult. Boult has dismissed Rohit once in IPL history from 6 matches so far.
Rohit Sharma needs to fire at all cylinders at home and put enough pressure on Boult to provide hope for the Mumbai Indians team.
- Jos Buttler vs Jasprit Bumrah
Jos Buttler struggled in the previous match against Delhi Capitals. He was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav which put RR under pressure. Jasprit Bumrah conceded 36 runs in his 4 overs as he was given 1 over in the first six overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Bumrah has not allowed Buttler to score runs easily in IPL dismissing England’s opener twice across 7 innings.
Bumrah has not been given many overs in the first six overs which resulted in Mumbai Indians conceding too many runs. It will be interesting to see if star MI bowler would be given any overs in first six overs by Pandya.
- Sanju Samson vs Piyush Chawla
Sanju Samson did not contribute much in the previous match against Delhi Capitals at home. Despite his failure, RR posted 185 for 5 with contributions from Riyan Parag.
On other hand, Piyush Chawla was taken to the cleaners by Klassen and Co against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Samson will be eager to dominate Chawla in the middle overs. The veteran leg spinner has dismissed Samson twice during seven IPL innings.
This battle might decide the fate in the middle overs as Samson will be eager to hit big shots against Chawla and make sure that RR wins the match.
