The Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore has officially changed its name to Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the 2024 edition of the tournament. They also unveiled their new jersey at the RCB Unbox event on Tuesday, March 19 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The RCB Unbox event was attended by the Men’s and Women’s teams. They announced the name change and also revealed their new logo. The franchise will now be officially called as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The new attire for the upcoming season was also unveiled. It is a combination of blue and red instead of the team’s traditional red and black shirts. In a post on ‘X’, the franchise wrote,
“The City we love, the Heritage we embrace, and this is the time for our ಹೊಸ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ (new chapter) PRESENTING TO YOU, ROYAL CHALLENGERS BENGALURU, ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂಡ, ನಿಮ್ಮ RCB!”

The Unbox event also saw the men’s team give a guard of honour to the Women’s Premier League winners. The Smriti Mandhana-led team defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final by eight wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Men’s team accorded a special gesture for the WPL Champions. The skipper Smriti Mandhana took a lap around the stadium along with the trophy, thanking the fans for their support.
Don’t call me King, it’s embarrassing: Virat Kohli
Veteran batter Virat Kohli is one of the most popular cricketers across the world and is called as “King Kohli” by the fans. During the RCB Unbox event, as the crowd cheered on the former captain, Kohli expressed that he feels embarrassed to be called as a King. He said,
“Let me talk. Guys, we have to get to Chennai tonight we have a chartered flight so we don’t have time (laughs). Firstly, you need to stop calling me that word. I was telling Faf, it is very embarrassing for me when you call me that name every year, just call me Virat.”
Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer of all time in the Indian Premier League. He has scored 7263 runs at an average of 37.25, including seven centuries and fifty half-centuries. He will be keen to continue his brilliant run in the upcoming season, that kicks off on March 22 against the Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.
