Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra backed Shubman Gill to do well as the franchise’s captain in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. He expressed that Shubman Gill has a good head and will be backed by the management. The 2024 edition will mark the youngster’s debut as a captain in the tournament.
Hardik Pandya, who led the Gujarat Titans in the last two seasons was traded to the Mumbai Indians before the auction. He led the franchise to their title win in their debut season in 2022. They also reached the final last season under his leadership. With Hardik Pandya traded, the Gujarat Titans handed over the leadership duties to Shubman Gill. The opener played a pivotal role for the franchise last season. In 17 matches, he scored 890 runs and earned the Orange Cap.
Speaking to reporters after the iconic IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai, Ashish Nehra said,
“IPL is a fast game and it throws challenges for everyone. We have seen how Shubman Gill has been playing for three years and how he has shaped up. He is 24-25, but he has a good head on his shoulders. We are there to support him. We believe in him that’s why we have made him the captain,”
“I am not someone who will always go by results… When it comes to captaincy, you must see different things. We are very confident that Shubman Gill is the right guy (to lead Gujarat),” he added.
Gujarat Titans squad for IPL 2024
The Gujarat Titans have had great success in the Indian Premier League so far, since their debut in 2022. They will be keen to have another brilliant season in the upcoming edition. The franchise has a squad of 25 players after the 2024 IPL auctions. Their biggest signing at the auction was Australian pacer Spencer Johnson for INR 10 crore. They also signed one of the most sought-after players, Shahrukh Khan for INR 7.40 crore.
