In the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) triumphed over Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 36 runs, securing their place in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The match took place on Friday, and SRH will now play in the final on Sunday, May 26. Hyderabad batted first after RR’s captain, Sanju Samson, won the toss and chose to field.
Despite a slow start, SRH managed to reach a total of 175 runs, thanks to notable contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (50), Rahul Tripathi (37), and Travis Head (34). Rajasthan’s bowlers, Trent Boult and Avesh Khan, each took three wickets, while Sandeep Sharma performed well, claiming two wickets for 25 runs in his four overs.
Rajasthan needed 176 to win but faced difficulties due to the effective bowling from SRH’s part-time spinners, Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed. The pair bowled a combined eight overs, conceding only 47 runs and taking five crucial wickets. Shahbaz Ahmed’s performance was particularly impactful, as he took three wickets and allowed just 23 runs in his four overs. Abhishek Sharma also shone with two wickets for 24 runs in his four overs.
Rajasthan Royals Collapse Under Pressure as Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Bowlers Dominate
Rajasthan Royals‘s innings struggled from the start. After 10 overs, they were 73/3, with Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel at the crease. Pressure mounted due to tight bowling and excellent fielding by Hyderabad. By the 12th over, RR’s situation worsened as Shahbaz Ahmed’s effective bowling reduced them to 80/5. Jurel’s efforts provided some resistance, including a six off Aiden Markram’s over, but it wasn’t enough.
As the game progressed, Hyderabad continued to apply pressure. In the 14th over, they dismissed Shimron Hetmyer, leaving Rajasthan at 93/6. Despite Jurel’s valiant attempts, including scoring boundaries in the 15th and 16th overs, Rajasthan’s chase faltered. By the 18th over, with T Natarajan’s tight bowling, RR was 124/7, and the required run rate became nearly impossible.
In the final overs, Rajasthan’s hopes dimmed further. T Natarajan‘s consistent performance saw him finish with figures of 3-0-13-1. Despite Jurel’s fifty, Rajasthan managed only 139/7 by the end of their 20 overs, falling short by 36 runs. Jurel’s effort, scoring 56 not out, was the only highlight in an otherwise dismal batting display.

Not a big surprise from RR, decent scoring Jaiswal and without Buttler the team has been not in a great shape. Sanju Samson disappointed performance yet again in a knock-out. SRH deserves to be in finals.

#RR needed 111 runs on 74 balls with 9 wickets in hand at one time but they only made 74 runs on those 74 balls and lost 9 wickets , that’s where they lost the match. Thanks to #jurel otherwise the margin of this defeat would have been much bigger. #RRvsSRH #SRHvsRR #IPL #finals

Feel for her 🥺. Just remembered the time when I used to be this much obsessed over winning. Hopefully she will learn the art of letting go these little matters. Lastly, remember we all #RR fans are in it together and forever. 🩷🩷🩷#rrvssrh #ipl pic.twitter.com/IL8EreyuBX
