Punjab Kings had a disappointing 2023 IPL edition. They finished 8th in the points table with 6 wins and 8 losses. PBKS had the same number of points as KKR but due to their negative run rate, Shikhar Dhawan could not qualify for the playoffs stage.
PBKS returned their core for IPL 2024 and would be hoping to perform as a unit in this year’s edition. They decided to buy Harshal Patel for Rs 11.75 Crore, Chris Woakes for 4.20 Crore, Ashutosh Sharma for 20 Lakhs, Vishwanath Pratap Singh for 20 Lakhs, Shashank Singh for 20 Lakhs, Tanay Thyagarajan for 20 Lakhs, Prince Chaudhary for 20 Lakhs and Rilee Rossouw for Rs 8 Crore.
Punjab Kings would begin their season against Delhi Capitals on 23rd March 2024. It promises to be an exciting encounter as they would look to showcase their skills with recruits.

Strengths
Punjab Kings has a strong bowling unit, especially in the pacers. Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Ellis, Arshdeep Singh, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Rahul Chahar, and Sikandar Raza. All of them can be utilized from the first six overs till the death overs.
Weakness
Punjab Kings has a lot of options to choose from the foreign with no established Indian players. Shikhar Dhawan looked out of sorts during the first six overs creating pressure on the PBKS team.
They have options to choose from and it becomes very tough for the captain to choose four of them in playing XI.
Opportunities
Punjab Kings depends upon the Indian domestic players. Arshdeep Singh looked impressive in last year’s edition with 17 wickets from 14 matches and bowled yorkers in the death overs to help them register victories.
This would be a great chance for other Indian domestic players like Jitesh Sharma, and Prabhsimran Singh to showcase their skills and give a reminder about their performances to the selectors ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Threats
Punjab Kings have struggled to get their combinations right in the initial games of the tournament. There is a lack of balance and depth in the squad, they need to be aware that they don’t lose matches to be behind during points table.
Expectations
Punjab Kings has a decent squad enough with an impressive bowling lineup. They need their batting to click as a unit which would give bowlers cushion.
With the way their squad looks, the top-four finish looks unlikely, and need to perform with international and domestic Indian players shine together.
