IPL 2024: [WATCH]- GT’s Kane Williamson Greeted SRH Owner Kavya Maran With A Friendly Hug

Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Kane Williamson engaged with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) owner Kavya Maran and other management members after the IPL 2024 match between the two teams was washed out on Thursday, May 16.

Persistent rain at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad led the match officials to abandon the game without a toss.

Both teams earned one point each from the washout. Gujarat Titans concluded their IPL 2024 journey with 12 points from 14 games, while SRH became the third team, alongside KKR and RR, to secure a playoff spot.

The Hyderabad franchise shared a video on their official X handle, providing fans with a glimpse of Kane Williamson’s interaction with the SRH management. In the video, he was seen warmly greeting Kavya Maran and other officials in the stands at the Hyderabad Stadium.

A glance at Kane Williamson’s tenure with SRH in the IPL

Kane Williamson is widely beloved in Hyderabad for his long-standing connection with the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise spanning several years in the last decade. Fans express their adoration for him by affectionately calling him ‘Kane mama’.

During his eight-season stint with SRH from 2015 to 2022, he amassed 2101 runs at an average of 36.22, registering 18 half-centuries in 76 matches.

He led the Hyderabad franchise in 46 of those matches. Kane Williamson’s most successful season with the franchise was IPL 2018 when he guided them to the finals, ultimately losing to CSK. That year, he claimed the orange cap by scoring 735 runs at an average of 52.50 and a strike rate of 142.44.

Following the departure of David Warner, the SRH management retained Williamson. They invested a significant sum of 14 crores in him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and appointed him as captain.

However, IPL 2022 didn’t unfold as expected, with Sunrisers enduring a disappointing campaign, finishing in eighth place on the points table.

Williamson grappled with injuries throughout the season, managing only 216 runs in 13 innings at a lackluster strike rate of 93.50. Consequently, the SRH management decided to move on from him.
