In the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, May 7, opening batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk faced Avesh Khan in the powerplay.
The Australian cricketer hit six consecutive boundaries in the fourth over delivered by the right-arm pacer, resulting in a total of 28 runs scored in that over. After being asked to bat first, DC faced the challenge of making the most of the powerplay against RR’s strong bowling lineup.
Jake Fraser-McGurk, the home team’s key player, proved his worth. Initially, he had a tough time as Trent Boult bowled aggressively from around the wicket, resulting in a painful blow. After two overs, Fraser-McGurk had only managed to score seven runs off as many balls.
However, in Boult’s second over, Fraser-McGurk changed his approach and hit three boundaries. RR captain Sanju Samson then turned to Avesh Khan to silence the young batsman, but instead, Fraser-McGurk continued to dominate.
Fraser-McGurk kicked off the over by hitting three consecutive boundaries, leading to a brief discussion among Boult and other players advising Avesh Khan. Despite the consultation, it had no impact as the right-handed batsman concluded the over with two sixes and another boundary.

By smashing a six off the last ball of the over, Jake Fraser-McGurk achieved his fifty in just 19 balls. This is his fourth half-century in his remarkable debut IPL season.
Fraser-McGurk got out in the subsequent over, bowled by R Ashwin
The promising batsman’s rapid innings abruptly ended in the fifth over, following his aggressive 28-run display in the previous over. R Ashwin delivered a full toss directly to the batsman, who attempted to loft it over the off-side field.
However, he only managed to connect with the toe end of the bat, sending the ball straight to debutant Donovan Ferreira at cover.
After Fraser-McGurk’s dismissal, DC’s score stood at 60/1 after 4.2 overs. Unfortunately, the home team couldn’t finish the powerplay strongly, losing Shai Hope’s wicket to an unfortunate dismissal.
Currently, the left-handed duo of Abishek Porel and Axar Patel are handling RR’s spin bowling threat and have reached the 100-run mark in the ninth over.
