After Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a crushing defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a remarkable run-chase led by Hyderabad openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, LSG captain KL Rahul faced criticism from the franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka.

Goenka’s furious and animated confrontation with Rahul near the LSG dugout was labelled as ‘appalling’ by fans on social media. In pursuit of LSG’s modest 165 for 4, Hyderabad’s opening pair launched an extraordinary assault on Lucknow’s bowlers, reaching the target in an astonishing 9.4 overs to secure a resounding 10-wicket victory.

With a combined total of 14 sixes and 16 fours, Head and Abhishek blazed their way to 89* off just 30 balls and 75* off only 28 balls, respectively. Before struggling against SRH’s bowling lineup as captain, Rahul had a disappointing performance with the bat, managing just 29 runs off 33 balls. LSG’s competitive total was primarily due to Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 48 off 26 balls and Ayush Badoni’s 55* off 30 balls.

The post-match scenes on the sidelines depicted Rahul receiving a rebuke from the team’s owner, Goenka, for the subpar performance.

The loss dropped LSG to sixth place on the points table following their sixth defeat in 12 matches, making their playoff qualification prospects more challenging. SRH climbed to third place with their seventh win in 12 matches.

During the live broadcast, as the footage of Goenka confronting Rahul was shown, the commentators remarked:

“You always feel these conversations should always be behind closed doors. There are so many cameras that miss nothing, and KL Rahul is not going to go at press conferences and various other things and probably potentially explain what is being discussed there. He has done well here to keep his cool.”
