MS Dhoni, the former captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is recognized for his unwavering commitment to the team, consistently ready to contribute in any capacity. His recent act of assisting CSK support staff by carrying drinks off the field during a practice session before the IPL 2024 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) further endeared him to fans.
A fan posted a clip of the incident on the microblogging platform X (previously Twitter), which quickly gained traction and became viral across various social media platforms. It’s noteworthy that MS Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain just before the tournament commenced.
After an impressive leadership tenure, he entrusted opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad with the captaincy. The defending champions Chennai will face RCB at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, March 22, in what is expected to be an exciting opening match of IPL 2024.

“I see him playing most of this season” -Wasim Jaffer commented on MS Dhoni’s involvement in IPL 2024
Despite relinquishing the CSK captaincy, Wasim Jaffer anticipates MS Dhoni’s active participation in nearly all matches of the upcoming season. Jaffer highlighted CSK’s limited backup for the wicketkeeper position in the inexperienced youngster Aravelly Avanish.
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer speculated on the possibility of Dhoni potentially sitting out a few matches this season. He said:
“I see him playing most of this season. With the back-up wicket-keeper being an Under-19 player ( Aravelly Avanish), don’t want to throw him in right away. Probably the right time to retire would have been the last season, if at all he wanted to, after winning the championship. But now that he has returned, expect him to play a major role and help Ruturaj Gaikwad”
In IPL 2023, MS Dhoni participated in every match for CSK despite grappling with a knee issue. He frequently dropped himself to the No. 8 position in the batting order.
However, he thrilled fans with dynamic performances in the latter stages of matches. Dhoni concluded the season with 104 runs off 54 deliveries, boasting a strike rate of 182.45 during Chennai’s successful pursuit of their fifth title.
