Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal faced another slow start in IPL 2024, losing his wicket to pacer Mukesh Kumar against the Delhi Capitals on March 28. In RR’s first match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Jaiswal scored 24 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed.
However, despite his early exit, RR managed to score 193/4 in their 20 overs and secure a comfortable 20-run victory. In RR’s second match, there were high expectations for Jaiswal, but he was dismissed when he misjudged a delivery that angled in, hitting his pads before dislodging the off-stump, giving Mukesh his first wicket in IPL 2024.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in outstanding form across various formats since his remarkable IPL 2023 season, where he scored 625 runs at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61.
The young cricketer recently became only the second Indian, after Sunil Gavaskar, to score over 700 runs in a Test series, achieving 712 runs. However, following a lapse in judgment in the opening game and an early dismissal today, Jaiswal is experiencing a surprisingly slow start to this year’s IPL season.
RR and DC had contrasting performances in their IPL 2024 season openers
RR started their IPL 2024 season with a convincing victory over LSG, while DC faced a final-over loss against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Under the leadership of skipper Sanju Samson’s outstanding 52-ball 82, RR posted a competitive total of 193/4 on a challenging Jaipur pitch.
In reply, LSG, despite losing four early wickets, managed to reach 145/4 in 16 overs, with skipper KL Rahul and key player Nicholas Pooran looking settled. However, outstanding bowling performances in the final overs by Sandeep Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Avesh Khan restricted the LSG batters, resulting in a 20-run victory for RR.
Meanwhile, DC made an impressive start, reaching 39/0 in three overs with openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh in their season opener against PBKS. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals and stumbled to 147/8 before a late surge from Abishek Porel pushed their total to 174 in 20 overs.
PBKS’s chase was led by the English pair of Sam Curran (63 off 47) and Liam Livingstone (38* off 21), guiding them to victory with four balls to spare. Both RR and DC failed to qualify for the playoffs last year, with DC finishing second from the bottom in the absence of their regular captain, Rishabh Pant.
At present, RR is struggling at 31/2 in six overs, with Sanju Samson getting out on 15 after Yashasvi Jaiswal.
