Mumbai Indians lost their second successive match of this season against Sunrisers Hyderabad played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on 28th March 2024. Following the defeat, batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar spoke to the team.

However, MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to field first. It was a flat batting paradise at Hyderabad where SRH posted the highest-ever total of 277 for 3 with contributions from Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Klassen.

In reply, Mumbai Indians gave a tough fight scoring 246 for 5 as Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Naman Dhir, and Tilak Varma provided some fight. Hardik Pandya struggled with his batting ensured that MI were behind and eventually lost the match by 31 runs.

The match between MI and SRH saw the highest-ever aggregate in a T20 match surpassing 517 between South Africa and West Indies played in January 2023.

“In the second half, in spite of scoring 277, 10 overs down the line nobody knew who a clear winner was. The game was very much open. The target was very much achievable. That’s a clear-cut sign that we’ve batted well. So let’s stick together. Tighter. There are going to be tougher moments. We will stick together as a group and pull it through,” Tendulkar said in a video uploaded by MI.

Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their first win of the tournament after suffering a narrow 4-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders. On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians suffered 2nd loss after a six-run loss to the Gujarat Titans.

The pitch at Hyderabad was a belter of a pitch that helped the batters. Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins led from the front with figures of 2 for 35 in 4 overs and helped to restrict the run flow of Mumbai Indians. On the other hand, Kwena Mapkhawa looked out of sorts which led to the most expensive spell by a bowler on IPL debut. He went for 66 runs in his 4 overs without taking any wickets.

Mumbai Indians would look to make a strong comeback after two successive losses in the season so far. They will face Rajasthan Royals at Wankedhe Stadium, Mumbai on 1st April and hope to register their first victory.
