Former champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made the first bid at the IPL Mega Auction and roped in New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra. The moment the bidding began, CSK used their RTM to confirm the star player they wanted on their team. Ravindra’s acquisition has been a major addition to CSK’s team and they would be eager to get the best out of him in the subsequent season.
The IPL Mega Auction witnessed some real high-stakes and fierce bidding battles that were witnessed last year on Saturday as well. Punjab Kings (PK) made some major splashes here and sealed Shreyas Iyer for Rs 24.75 crore and Arshdeep Singh for Rs 18 crore. PK demands highly robust price schedules that show they are determined to create a deep and quality lineup for the up coming season.
Amongst the players up for auction, there was quite a high bidding war for the Punjab star Arshdeep Singh, for which the CSK bid to start with. But PBKS went ahead to surpass CSK in bidding to acquire Arshdeep, signing the young cricketer through the RTM option. This is the second occasion too that an IPL auction is taking place in an off-shore location; the previous auction was held in Dubai last year.
The Mega Auction for this year’s Indian Premier League has laid a good platform for the upcoming season. The promise of more substantial signings means several teams are set for a battle on the hockey ring. Rachin Ravindra got taken by CSK, while both Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh were signed by PBKS, which shows that people have made some very interesting purchases.
