Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took the biggest step of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Auction at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, by re-signing former player Sam Curran. The 26-year-old all-rounder from England has been part of the CSK team in the 2020 and 2021 editions. Curran was bought back by the franchise at a whopping figure of Rs 2.4 Crore.

Sam Curran’s re-signing is a strategic move by the CSK management, given that he possesses quite a few all-round skills.

Sam Curran is a unique asset to the team, as he’s a left-arm fast bowler and also a left-handed batsman. His experience with CSK earlier will make him comfortable quickly and make impacts right from the first season for the upcoming tournament.

CSK, which has won IPL five times, processed a busy rebuild of its squad during the off-season. The franchise signed Sam Curran to bolster the all-around department of its roster. The move is likely to elevate the possibility of having a strong return in the league for CSK during the IPL 2025 season.

CSK’s strong statement at the 2025 Auction

This was CSK’s strong statement at the 2025 Auction, where they brought back most of their familiar faces into the fold. One of the highest acquisitions of CSK is that of Ravichandran Ashwin for almost Rs 10 crore, weighing in to the franchise. His return is expected to strengthen the spin department of the franchise.

They won the bidding for New Zealanders Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra for Rs 6.25 crore and Rs 4 crore, respectively. This was also added to the franchise’s purse by acquiring Afghani Noor Ahmad for Rs 10 crore. Indian seamers Khaleel Ahmed, batter Rahul Tripathi, and allrounder Vijay Shankar are other notable acquisitions by the franchise, returning to it for Rs 1.2 crore.

CSK has thereby fortified its squad towards the 2025 season due to these acquisitions. Presumably their concentration was on the union of familiar shapes so that stability and continuity could be provided alongside the effervescence of new talent into the team.
