Lucknow Super Giants have signed Rishabh Pant for a record INR 27 crore. The wicketkeeper-batsman is presently the most expensive player in the history of the IPL.

Earlier in the auction, Punjab paid INR 26.75 crore for Shreyas Iyer, making him the most expensive player. However, his record lasted less than an hour when the Lucknow Super Giants made a hefty move for the wicketkeeper-batsman.

Lucknow, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad all coveted Rishabh Pant. Finally, Lucknow Super Giants made the winning bid of INR 20.75 crore. Delhi Capitals used the RTM option but withdrew from the race when Lucknow boosted the bid to 27 crore.

Rishabh Pant has set a record of being the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The Lucknow Super Giants bagged the wicketkeeper-batsman for a whopping INR 27 crore during the IPL mega auction.

Pant was sought after and there was huge competition for him; Sunrisers Hyderabad were also in contention. Hyderabad club initially offered Rs 20.75 crore for Pant but Lucknow Super Giants bought this excellent wicketkeeper-batsman after outbidding Hyderabad club. The previous team of Pant, the Delhi Capital, had the option of using the Right to Match (RTM) to retain him but released him.

LSG opting for Rs 27 crore for Pant also shows the team’s desire and commitment to giving a good team. Pant’s move to the club will for sure enhance their batting lineup as well as offer them a good wicketkeeper-batsman. As far as the Lucknow Super Giants are concerned, Pant on board will mean a much stronger bid for the title in IPL in the year 2025.

Pant has 111 games to his credit and 3284 runs with the blade, including one hundred  and eighteen fifties to his name.
