RCB has bought the Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood for a massive INR 12.50 crore at the mega-auction held during IPL 2025. Australian pacer Mitchell Hazlewood had put himself up for the auction and his initial price was INR 2 crore. Lacking any bid in the last auction, he missed the IPL 2024 season despite being one of the best pacers around the world.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the bid for signing Hazlewood after fierce competition among the teams. Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians were also in the fray for the pacer, but RCB emerged as the highest bidder. The Kolkata left-hand opening batsman addition of Hazlewood certainly strengthens the bowling line-up of the RCB.
Indeed, having Hazlewood on the team, RCB will look forward to the improvement of their team before the IPL season is set to commence. The right combination of early experience and technical skill sets will be major pluses for the side from Down Under. By bidding big for Hazlewood, RCB reveals its ambitions to assemble a formidable team in presentation for the IPL season 2025.
Josh Hazlewood’s impact in IPL:
It was not so great from the start of Josh Hazlewood’s IPL journey. He had a relatively poor first season, featuring in only three matches and taking one wicket. But his performance enhanced in the year 2021, where he picked 11 wickets in 9 matches he played.
IPL 2022 also witnessed a great performance from Hazlewood. Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he bowled competitively and took as many as 20 wickets in 12 matches. His IPL 2023 tournament was prematurely terminated due to injuries; however, he had an impressive strike rate as he bowled three wickets in three matches.
With the consolidated participation going to occur in IPL 2025, Hazlewood will be hoping to make a mark. For this reason, with him and his experience and skills, no team will be worse off when he joins it. This young bowler has proved himself in earlier seasons and will surely be aiming for more in the tournament to be held.
