IPL 2025: Sanju Samson’s Brilliance Dismisses Jos Buttler

Sanju Samson once again proved why he is considered one of the smartest wicketkeepers in the game. Known for his quick thinking and sharp decision-making behind the stumps, Samson was at his brilliant best during the Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2025 clash against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Samson’s strategic brilliance became the turning point as the match seemed to slip away from Rajasthan’s hands.

Gujarat Titans were cruising smoothly with Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan dismantling the RR bowling attack. The pair stitched together a powerful 80-run partnership for the second wicket, leaving the Royals desperate for a breakthrough. That moment arrived when spinner Maheesh Theekshana delivered a carrom ball that beat Buttler and struck him on the front pad.

While the on-field umpire turned down the appeal, Samson didn’t hesitate to signal for DRS — a move that paid off immediately. The review showed the ball crashing into the stumps, validating Samson’s quick call and ending the dangerous stand.

DRS Brilliance Evokes Dhoni Comparisons

Samson’s flawless use of the Decision Review System reminded fans of former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni, who was also famous for his precise DRS judgments. Just like Dhoni, Samson displayed exceptional awareness and the instinct to take the review instantly. It wasn’t just a timely decision — it was a game-changer. His presence of mind under pressure helped Rajasthan claw their way back into the contest just when Gujarat seemed to be running away with the game.

The dismissal of Buttler proved to be a pivotal moment, giving Rajasthan the momentum they needed to take a couple of quick wickets. It also reasserted Samson’s importance, not only as a batter and leader but also as a tactician with gloves in hand.

Gujarat Titans Still in Command

Even after losing Shubman Gill early and the key wicket of Buttler, Gujarat Titans maintained their dominance with Sudharsan continuing to hold the innings together. His powerful strokeplay and composure kept the scoreboard ticking as he eyed a well-deserved century. Heading into the final overs, Gujarat reached 217/6 in 20 overs, inching closer to the 200-run mark. Despite the hiccup caused by Samson’s brilliant review, the Titans still had their sights set on a formidable total.
