IPL 2025 To Resume In Three Cities As BCCI Extends Season To May 30: Reports
IPL 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to hold the final of the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on May 30, according to a report by the Indian Express. Originally set for May 25, the tournament was abruptly halted due to tensions at the India-Pakistan border, forcing officials to revise the schedule. IPL is all set to revive the action, planning to resume IPL from May 16 and possibly stretch it to May 30.

“As the IPL was suspended for a week, there is a possibility of the IPL final now being played on May 30 instead of May 25 with limited venues. The schedule will be sent to all IPL teams by tonight. All franchises have been told to inform its team to report to their respective destination by Tuesday,” a source in the Indian board confirmed.

Background of IPL Suspension

The IPL faced a sudden disruption that initially seemed like a technical delay. However, the real cause was a mix of border tensions between India and Pakistan, security concerns, and infrastructure failures, including the floodlight glitch in Dharamsala. As soon as the BCCI suspended the tournament temporarily, most overseas players flew back home.

The IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings was called off as a precautionary measure after the floodlights failed at the HPCA Stadium. This forced the BCCI to pause and reassess the situation before deciding on the next steps.

BCCI’s Decision to Resume IPL

The BCCI has officially confirmed plans to resume the remaining 12 matches from May 16, wrapping things up by May 30. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal even hinted that the decision gained momentum after the India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement. According to Dhumal, the board has already started speaking with team owners, broadcasters, and other key stakeholders to realign the event.

“Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… We need to work out the venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved and find a way as to how to move forward. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government,” Dhumal had told The Indian Express.

Revised IPL Schedule

Initially scheduled to end on May 25, the IPL is now expected to go on till May 30. With limited time and 12 matches left, the BCCI has to squeeze in more double headers (two matches in one day). Playoffs and the grand finale are still on the table, but the window is narrow. Sources confirm that the complete fixture list will be shared with the franchises by Sunday night. Three cities made the cut: Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. They were chosen based on their infrastructure, security preparedness, and geographical diversity.

Nothing is guaranteed, and another unforeseen event could force the remaining matches to be canceled. To prepare for any disruptions, the BCCI has devised multiple backup plans, including the possibility of holding playoffs without some overseas players if necessary.
