The wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will reportedly play in the coming domestic season, after being sacked by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last year when he refused to play in the Ranji Trophy. He has been listed as one of the 25 pre-season probables by Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA).

As reported by Cricbuzz, Kishan is confirmed that he will be playing for his state in the next campaign and may even be considered for a leading position. However, it is not clear if this information has been communicated to JSCA from his side or whether they have got it elsewhere.

Ishan who impacted cricket between July 2021 and November 2023 played two Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is scoring an elusive double century against them all but one time. The advice from well-wishers and national selectors on missing out on their own chances led to his retirement.

The BCCI and national selectors told wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan not to play for India in the previous season. He trained at a Baroda academy after deciding to concentrate on the IPL. November 2023 marked Kishan’s final match for India. Perhaps as a result of being passed over for international matches, he became irate and was dropped from the national squad in South Africa in December. Kishan was not included in any central contracts by the BCCI.

The Duleep Trophy first-class red ball competition at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, kicks off the domestic season on September 5. For the same reason that he was passed over for international assignments—his reluctance to play for his state—selectors are unlikely to take the left-hander into account for this four-team competition.

As Kishan begins to represent his state, he might come back into the national conversation. He was conspicuously missing from the current tour of Sri Lanka, but Shreyas Iyer, who was similarly barred from central contracts, was included having represented Mumbai in a few games.
