“It Will Be Unfortunate” – Pat Cummins On Virat Kohli’s Possible Final BGT In Australia

Australian captain Pat Cummins expressed his desire for another face-off in Test cricket with Virat Kohli following the hosts’ victory in the fifth Test in Sydney to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The 31-year-old praised Kohli’s decade-long consistency in Tests, noting how much he has enjoyed their battles.

Kohli, 36, might have played his last Test series in Australia but endured a difficult campaign. Aside from his unbeaten 100 in the second innings of the opener in Perth, the former captain managed just 90 runs in his other nine innings, finishing the series with 190 runs.

In the post-match press conference, Cummins highlighted the excitement Kohli brings to contests, describing his presence as theatrical and impactful. Reflecting on the possibility of not facing Kohli again, Cummins remarked, “It would be a shame,” as quoted by Perth Now.

“It’ll be sad if it’s his last series. It’s always been a wonderful contest. It’s always I think more than just the runs that he brings to the game. It’s always a bit of added theatre, which is sometimes good. Sometimes it can rile you up as an opposition, which I’m sure is part of his plans.”

“If we don’t get another chance, it’s going to be a shame. I’ve always really enjoyed playing with him. He’s been one of the star batters for the last decade or so. You know if you get his wicket, it goes a long way to winning a game.”

Gautam Gambhir suggests that Virat Kohli might continue playing for several more years

When questioned about the future of senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma amid their struggles with form, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that they remain motivated and will decide their course in the coming months. The ICC quoted him as saying:

“See, I can’t talk about the future of any player, it’s up to them as well. But what I can say is that they still have the hunger, they still have the passion, they’re tough people. And hopefully, they can continue to take Indian cricket forward. Ultimately, as we all know, whatever they plan, they will plan for the best interest of Indian people.”

India’s 3-1 series defeat has also ruled them out of contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
