“It’s A Mental Challenge” – Rohit Sharma Addresses Poor Form After BGT 4th Test Loss

Rohit Sharma is enduring a tough phase as both his form with the bat and India’s fortunes took a hit with a defeat in the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Melbourne.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Indian skipper expressed his disappointment over his performance, admitting the mental challenges of dealing with setbacks and things not going as planned.

“Lot of the things that I am trying to do aren’t coming off as a batter. Mentally it’s a challenge. It’s a big disappointment. As of now, that is where it is,” Rohit Sharma said.

Rohit has featured in three Tests and five innings in the series, scoring just 31 runs at an average of 6.20. The skipper acknowledged the need for both personal and team reflection. With one Test remaining in Sydney, the 37-year-old emphasized the goal of leveling the series.

“There are things we need to look at as a team, I also need to look at personally. There’s still a game to go. If we play well, it will be 2-all. A draw will be really nice (result),” he added.

Rohit Sharma hails Nitish Reddy, predicting a bright future for the all-rounder

At the press conference, Rohit Sharma praised Nitish Reddy for his standout performance in Melbourne. Reddy scored his maiden Test century in the first innings, helping India stay competitive.

Rohit commended Reddy’s technique, potential, and on-field character. The young batter also became the third-youngest Indian to score a Test century in Australia.

“We saw a lot of potential. He’s shown what he is capable of, read the situation pretty well. Has a solid technique and superb mind. Has a strong character,” the Indian skipper said.

Rohit commented on Nitish’s development, noting that he is still in the early stages of his Test career. However, he expressed confidence in the all-rounder’s potential, believing he has the qualities needed for success.

“Hard to say about his growth because there have been just four matches. He will only go up from here because he has all the tools to be very successful,” he said.
