The hard-hitting England batter dropped from the T20I squad against Bangladesh produced one of the best T20 innings for Quetta Gladiators against Peshawar Zalmi played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Islamabad on 8 March 2023.
Looking down and out after conceding 240, Jason Roy started putting pressure on Zalmi’s bowling from the word go. Martin Guptill also looked in sublime touch keeping the scoreboard ticking at a quick pace. Roy continued his aggressive intent not allowing them to settle. At the end of the first six overs, Quetta raced away to 88 for 1.
Roy completed fifty off just 22 balls to maintain pressure on Zalmi’s bowling. Will Smeed made a valuable contribution and was dismissed for 26 off 22 deliveries. Roy was looking in great touch hitting the ball brilliantly making life challenging completing his century off just 44 deliveries. After completing his century, Roy just demonstrated hitting abilities along with Mohammed Hafeez.
It was an amazing batting performance as Roy made the batting look easy completing the chase with a six to win the match by 8 wickets with 10 balls to spare. Quetta Gladiators chased down the highest ever-run chase in Pakistan Super League history.

Roy remained not out on 145 off 63 balls with 20 fours and 5 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 230.15. Quetta Gladiators still have a chance to qualify if they win their last match before other results go their way.
For his unbeaten 145 off 63 deliveries, Jason Roy was named the man of the match award. Things looked in bad shape for Gladiators after giving away 240 runs in the first innings.
Quetta stand-in captain Mohammad Nawaz won the toss and decided to field first. Saim Ayub and Babar Azam gave Zalmi a great start putting pressure on the Quetta bowlers. Both of them added 162 runs for the opening wicket laying a strong foundation for a big total. Ayub made 74 off 34 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes.
Babar Azam completed his maiden PSL century and remained not out on 115 off 65 deliveries with 15 fours and 3 sixes. Rovman Powell produced another cameo knock to help Zalmi post a mammoth total of 240 for 2 in 20 overs.
Jason Roy plays well for England in limited overs format
Jason Roy has shown a hunger to succeed in the limited-overs format for England. He scored well made century in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh at Dhaka, Mirpur. His ability to put pressure on the opponent bowlers makes him a dangerous batter to bowl at.
Roy has played 116 ODI matches ( 110 innings) with 4271 runs including a career-best score of 180. He levelled with the most centuries by an England batter in ODIs with 12 centuries and 21 half-centuries.
His performance in the T20I format has been decent enough with 1522 runs from 64 matches ( 64 innings) with 8 half-centuries to his name with a strike rate of 137.61.
