Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was narrowly pipped by Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to clinch the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for June after having a stellar T20 World Cup 2024, where he was awarded Player of the Tournament.
During a densely cricketing month heading towards India’s T20 World Cup conquest in Barbados, Bumrah outplayed countryman Rohit and Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the award. The 30-year-old Bumrah, got 15 wickets at a bowling average of 8.26, ahead of the competition in the USA and the Caribbean, while keeping an almost unbelievable economy rate of 4.17.
This was his best performance this season and it has been consistently good all through. In addition to Virat Kohli, he secured first place in the Men’s T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament, another proof of his expertise in being one of the best bowlers in cricket.
The sidekick of Kohli, during the first phase of Super Eights Bumrah showed his class by scalping six wickets in three games. He then came up with a splendid bowling performance of 2/12 (2.4 overs) when India thrashed England in the semi-final. He then bowled a crucial 2/18 (4 overs) in the finals against South Africa.

Jasprit Bumrah won the title of ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June following his outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup, where he won Player of the Tournament. Bumrah thanked his family and the other two nominees after accepting the honor.
“I am delighted to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June. It’s a special honor for me following a memorable few weeks spent in the USA and West Indies. We have had a lot to celebrate as a team, and I’m delighted to be able to add this personal accolade to the list,” Bumrah said.
“To perform as well as we did at the tournament and lift the trophy at the end is incredibly special, and I will carry those memories with me forever. I wish to congratulate my captain Rohit Sharma and Rahmanullah Gurbaz for their excellent performances in the same period, and I am humbled to have been chosen as the winners,” Jasprit Bumrah added.
“Finally, I want to thank my family, all of my teammates and coaches, as well as the fans who have voted for me. Their support pushes me to compete at the best of my ability in national colors,” Jasprit Bumrah concluded.
