The ICC has unveiled the list of the nominees for the Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, and Jasprit Bumrah has made it to the shortlist of four players. Bumrah is the lone bowler out of the nominees that also include England’s Joe Root and Harry Brook and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis.
The rivalry for the award should be intense, especially between Bumrah and Root, players who have been exemplary this year. Root has been one of the most consistent run machines this year, while Bumrah has been the backbone of Indian performance in tests by taking those telling wickets and winning Test matches.
ICC Test Cricketer of the Year is now one of the most acclaimed annual awards in international cricket, and the winner is expected to be named shortly. It will be all work and no play as Bumrah has been nominated for this award and he will be hoping to clinch it.
Jasprit Bumrah emerges as a strong contender
The leading Indian fast bowler has nominated himself for the 2024 ICC Test Cricketer of the Year. As for Test cricket, Bumrah has been no less impressive, taking 71 wickets at an average of 14.92 off 13 Test matches, the toughest form of the game.
The best bowling by Bumrah took place during the first test of the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series held at Perth, where he earned five wickets and triumphed. He was the most successful bowler in terms of series wickets until the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy this year, having claimed 30 wickets in just 7 innings.
Irritant performances from Bumrah have placed him in the bracket of serious contenders for the prestigious award. The man has been able to single-handedly come up with match-winning performances and that has helped India a lot in test matches. Based on the peaks and even poles that Bumrah has accomplished, as well as unforgettable visuals, he will definitely put himself against other contenders.
