Team India pacer Mukesh Kumar opened up on his progress as a bowler in limited-overs cricket. He revealed that he takes advice from the other pacers, including Jasprit Bumrah. Mukesh has made an impressive start to his International career across all formats. He will be eyeing to cement his place in the Indian squad ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Mukesh Kumar has had a small international career so far, playing 22 matches. He has taken 21 wickets across formats. In a recent interview, he opened up on his progress as a white-ball bowler. He expressed that he takes regular advice from Jasprit Bumrah about the game. Mukesh said,
“Bumrah bhai keeps advising me on the yorker in particular. He says, ‘Tu bahut acchha yorker daalta hai. Jo kar raha hai, bas wahi karta jaa’ (You bowl the yorker well. Just keep doing what you have been). We talk quite regularly and he gives me other suggestions as well, which are invaluable.”
We discuss our respective roles: Mukesh Kumar
Mukesh Kumar further also spoke about the chemistry that the pace bowling attack shares. He expressed that they discuss the plans and work together. He compared it to the way the Bengal pacers play in the domestic circuit. Mukesh also recalled how Jasprit Bumrah guided him during the South Africa series.
“The process is quite similar to what myself, Akash (Deep) and Ishan Porel used to do in Bengal. Here also we discuss our respective roles: who will go on all-out attack and who focuses on keeping things tight with maiden overs. In Cape Town, Bumrahbhai was telling me to keep bowling those dot balls as that would add to their (Proteas) pressure (in the second innings). Such was the situation that I had to bowl those, which eventually proved to be beneficial for the team,” said Mukesh Kumar.
