BCCI Secretary Jay Shah is reportedly working to arrange a charter flight to transport the Indian team out of Barbados. Hurricane Beryl is expected to impact the Caribbean island soon, classified as ‘very dangerous’ by local authorities. India competed in the T20 World Cup final in Bridgetown on Saturday.
Originally, both finalists planned to depart the Caribbean on Monday, taking advantage of the reserve day for the T20 World Cup 2024 final. However, due to the anticipated closure of the airport at 8pm local time on Sunday night and subsequent flight cancellations, these plans may need adjustment.
As per to a report from Cricbuzz, BCCI is finding the way of chartering a flight for the Indian contingent, including approximately 70 individuals inclusive of cricketers, their families, support staff, and officials Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary, is overseeing these arrangements.

It has been reported that there are no aircraft available in the Caribbean capable of accommodating 70 people, prompting the board to seek one from the USA. Initially, Team India planned to travel to New York and then fly back home, but now the return journey may take a different route.

Earlier today, journalist Vikrant Gupta provided an update from the island, where the Indian media is also stranded due to the hurricane.
“Hurricane Beryl will hit Barbados either tonight or early morning Monday. The landfall is going to be severe. Barbados airport will shut down and flights are being cancelled. Even the Indian team will be stuck here till the Hurricane subsides and airport resumes. We are stuck here too. All outbound flights are being cancelled,” Gupta’s tweet read.
