West Indies players Jayden Seales and Kevin Sinclair were fined for ICC Code of Conduct breaches during the second Test against Bangladesh. Seales was fined 25% of his match fee for “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game” under Article 2.20.
Additionally, Seales was issued one demerit point, marking his first offence within a 24-month period. The incident occurred in the first over of Bangladesh’s second innings when he made an inappropriate and overly aggressive gesture toward the opposition’s dressing room after claiming a wicket.
Meanwhile, Kevin Sinclair was fined 15% of his match fee for breaching Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with “disobeying an umpire’s instruction during an international match.”
Along with his fine, one demerit point was added to Kevin Sinclair’s disciplinary record, marking his first offence within a 24-month period. The incident occurred when Sinclair disregarded on-field umpires’ instructions to stop using language deemed aggressive and harsh towards the Bangladesh batters.
Both Seales and Sinclair admitted to their respective offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
The charges were filed by umpires Asif Yaqoob, Kumar Dharmasena, Nitin Menon, and Zahid Bassarath. Level 1 breaches carry penalties of an official reprimand, fines up to 50% of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
Seales And Sinclair Penalized For ICC Code Violations
Players accumulating four or more demerit points within 24 months face suspension, as demerit points convert to suspension points, leading to bans. Two suspension points result in a ban for one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is, whichever comes first.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh secured a historic 101-run win over West Indies in the second Test on Day 4. Chasing 287 in the final innings, West Indies were bowled out for 185, giving Bangladesh their first win in Bangladesh against the Windies in 15 years and leveling the series 1-1.
Jayden Seales was named Player of the Series after taking 10 wickets in two matches, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker. In the first innings, he bowled the most economical Test spell since 1978, surpassing India’s Umesh Yadav’s record.
