India’s left-arm bowler Jaydev Unadkat is coming to Sussex for the last five matches of the County Championship season, which would be his second time in county cricket. He will also join another Indian and Saurashtra cricketer, Cheteshwar Pujara at Sussex.

Although he was not chosen for the Duleep Trophy tournament starting on September 6, Unadkat will play Yorkshires’ first match in this 2024 County Championship with them on Thursday at Scarborough. The event would be a good opportunity for him to make an impression and gain experience in the County Championship.

His previous experience with Sussex was great, and they are eager to have him back. Jaydev Unadkat’s return to Sussex means that the team will have an edge over other teams in their remaining matches of the season.

“I’m really happy to be back here. Hove is my second home. The team’s been doing fantastic this season and, hopefully, in the second leg of the season, we’re going to pull it through and get back in division one, where we belong! Cheers,” Unadkat said in a video posted by Sussex on their social media handle.

Jaydev Unadkat, who is presently a left-arm bowler from India, had a terrific start when he played four last County Championship matches for Sussex last year. Sussex was able to finish in third place in Division 2 due to his 11 wickets with an average of 24.18.

He made his home debut against Leicestershire where he put on his best performance netting six wickets in the second innings even though he was suffering from an ankle injury thus leading Sussex to their third win of the season so far.

Speaking on bringing Unadkat back for the end of the 2024 campaign, Sussex Head Coach, Paul Farbrace said: “We are all delighted that Jaydev is returning to the 1st Central County Ground for the final five championship matches of the coming season”

“Jaydev lived up to the expectation that not only would he show his class on the field, but he would also be a fantastic person and be part of what we are all trying to achieve. He is a lovely guy who did everything he could to help our players and share his fantastic knowledge.”

Additionally, Jaydev Unadkat had 67 as the most number of wickets taken by any fast bowler in one Ranji Trophy season while leading Saurashtra to its first Ranji Trophy victory ever during the 2019-2020 season.
