Jimmy Neesham”s splendid performances in this World Cup deserves a special mention. He made sure to create an impact with the bat and ball in every game and that stood as a strength for the kiwis in almost every game.
The middle-order stability was provided by his presence and the team management will be interested to continue him for the upcoming tours. However, he encountered with heartbreaking news last Sunday.
It is to be noted that Neesham came out to bat alongside Guptill in the superb chase of 15 runs in the finals of the World Cup. However, the winner was decided on the basis of boundary count as the super over ended in a tie.
Neesham hit a magnificent six in the second delivery off Archer and it is still being appreciated for his sense at the middle. But that moment turned out to be the final few seconds of his childhood coach”s life.
Former grammar teacher and cricket coach, David James Gordon passed away right after that six hit by Neesham. One of his daughters said that he had a great of sense of humour even in the last moments and the entire family was cheering Neesham.
However, when he found some difficulties in breathing, a nurse from the hospital arrived confirming that he is no more.
Dave Gordon, my High School teacher, coach and friend. Your love of this game was infectious, especially for those of us lucky enough to play under you. How appropriate you held on until just after such a match. Hope you were proud. Thanks for everything. RIP

Not just Neesham, David was also a coach of Lockie Ferguson who was phenomenal with the ball in this tournament. Neesham took his Twitter handle expressing dissent over his death, for which the coach”s daughter replied.
Sources also suggest that David coached many other students in his school close to 25 years. This gives us a clue on the love he possessed for the gentleman”s game.
May his soul Rest In Peace.
