Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has backed the under-fire England payers for choosing IPL over Test cricket commitments. The England players are under the scanner after Jos Buttler’s comments on the IPL and its financial benefits. This happened after the British media quizzed Buttler over choosing IPL ahead of Test cricket for his country in an upcoming series against New Zealand. Buttler said that the financial rewards of IPL are “obvious” but playing against “favourites” India in their backyard, where the upcoming T20 World Cup will be played later this year, comes with its own benefits.

Jos Buttler spoke about the financial benefits of the IPL and how the players have developed as a player playing in the tournament. He further said that the ECB is finding a way out in their effort to trying to manage the players.

“We all know the benefits of IPL. It’s a huge tournament and monetary rewards are obvious and also the experience you gain and it has its pluses too. And it’s obvious in the upturn of the white-ball game in England, and the number of players participating in it and how beneficial it is to all of us. Of course, the schedule is tough and there is no perfect balance to it and ECB and players are working closely trying to manage that” said Buttler.

Meanwhile, Kevin Pietersen in a tweet has backed the players saying that the question should be asked to the England management and not to the players. The former England skipper is a big advocator of the IPL and the way it has helped the English players improve their game.

“So the PLAYERS are now being quizzed by media every day about IPL and playing early Test matches in England. First the youngster, Curran & now Jos. The questions should be at Harrison, Giles & Smith! Not seen them front up to India debacle?! Leave the players out of this!”
