The BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai on Wednesday, July 31, hosted a large meeting concerning the mega auction involving officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as well as owners of franchises for Indian Premier League (IPL).
Some franchise owners like Shah Rukh Khan of Kolkata Knight Riders and Kavya Maran from Sunrisers Hyderabad contradicted the idea to conduct a mega auction. Before the IPL season of 2025, there will be a mega auction.
In 2022, there was a previous mega auction that had varying responses. Even for successful teams like CSK (Chennai Super Kings) and MI (Mumbai Indians), it was difficult to adjust to this change since all the franchises could only keep four players each.
It was stated in a report by Cricbuzz that mega auction is what the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL team owners mainly discussed. As per the report, some people raised their voices opposing the auction.
The website said that at one time Shah Rukh got into an argument with Ness Wadia, co-owner of Punjab Kings’ (PBKS). They were debating about the number of retentions. SRH owner Maran backed KKR for having more retentions.

The most awaited meeting was attended by Kiran Kumar Grandhi (Delhi Capitals), Sanjiv Goenka (Lucknow Super Giants), Rupa Gurunath (Chennai Super Kings), Kavya Maran (Sunrisers Hyderabad), and Manoj Badale (Rajasthan Royals). Mumbai Indians’ Ambanis were part of the meeting through video conference.

In addition, Jindal informed the press subsequent to their assembly that he was in support of a colossal selling. He also acknowledged that there was a discussion about the Impact Player regulation, with teams for and against it.
Statement released by BCCI following gathering with IPL franchise owners
It is rumored that BCCI gave formal announcement on various important matters such as Auction, Retentions and Impact Player Rule after meeting with IPL team proprietors.
“The franchise owners tabled feedback on player regulations and other commercial aspects, including central merchandising, licensing, and gaming.”
”The BCCI will now take these recommendations to the IPL Governing Council for further deliberation and evaluation before formulating the IPL player regulations,” the BCCI release said, as quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
The BCCI is probably going to get back to the IPL franchises regarding the regulations and modifications, if any, by the end of August.
