Team India scripted a whitewash over New Zealand beating the host by seven runs to end the series 5-0 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. While it was all smiles, Rohit Sharma's injury ahead of the ODI series was the only concern for the management. But stand-in-skipper KL Rahul ensured that the dashing batsman will be fit again to go in a few days.
Meanwhile, the Kiwis will be really disappointed with their performance in the series. They were in line to win the last three matches but choked in the fag end of every match to lose the series. They were at 116 for three in 12.3 overs at one stage in pursuit of 164 runs with Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor but once the wicket-keeper batsman departed, the middle-order crumbled. Navdeep Saini and Jasprit Bumrah were brilliant with the ball to snatch the win from the jaws of defeat.

Previously, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma starred with the bat scoring the bulk of runs to set up the tone for India with the bat. Rahul missed a fine century while Rohit knocked 60 runs off 41 balls before Shreyas Iyer helped India post a challenging total of 163 runs at the end of 20 overs which proved to be enough to seal the win. However, Rohit Sharma's injury kept the management on their toes ahead of the crucial ODI series.
The cricketer from Mumbai apparently injured his calf muscle while sneaking in a single. He got immediate medical attention and struck a six in the very next delivery. But decided to discontinue preventing further damage as he was not fit enough to run between the wickets. Although the injury looked grimmer, but KL Rahul has assured that Rohit Sharma will be fit for the ODI series.
"Rohit's alright, unfortunate injury, hopefully, he should be fine in a couple of days," KL Rahul said at the end of the game.
The three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand commence on February 5 (Wednesday).
