Kings XI Punjab have struggled to get going in IPL 2020 with five defeats from six matches. Along with low returns from the middle-order batsmen, death bowling has been an area of concern for them. Skipper KL Rahul has indicated a change in the line-up in upcoming games stating that young pace Ishan Porel will be in action at some point in IPL 2020.
Mohammed Shami and Sheldon Cottrell have played most the game for Punjab this season while Chris Jordan has come in for a game or two. While Shami and Cottrell have been extremely successful with the new ball; their death over return has been extremely poor. Kings XI Punjab have given away the most runs in the death overs.
Ishan Porel will play at some point – KL Rahul
In the wake of this, there has been a call from certain sections to play Ishan Porel, who is coming from an excellent domestic season. The India U-19 World Cup-winning member can clock over 140kmph consistently and had excellent returns during India A’s tour of New Zealand.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, KL Rahul said that the 22-year-old fast bowler from Bengal is bowling well in the nets and will make his IPL debut at some point.
“He’s been very, very good. He is bowling really well in the nets. I have been impressed with how he’s bowling and he’s had a great first-class season as well,” Rahul said after KXIP’s loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“Some exciting guys in the lineup and one of them being Ishan. At some point, he will get a game,” he added.
So far, Ishan Porel has represented Bengal in 22 first-class games and 22 List A matches picking 61 and 41 wickets respectively. He also boasts a good economy rate in T20s of just over 6.11 from 14 games where he has scalped 16 wickets.
