KL Rahul delivered a memorable knock at Lord’s on Day 3 of the third Test between India and England. The stylish right-hander scored a gritty 100 off 176 balls, marking his second century at the iconic venue. With this, he joined an elite group, becoming only the second Indian after Dilip Vengsarkar to score multiple Test hundreds at Lord’s.

Rahul’s innings was a blend of patience and precision, holding the Indian innings together after a shaky start. This knock was also his 10th century in Test cricket, reaffirming his ability to perform under pressure on foreign soil.

Strong Support from the Middle Order

Rahul’s efforts were well supported by crucial partnerships that helped India level England’s first-innings total of 387. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant played an entertaining and aggressive knock of 74 before being dramatically run out just before lunch—a moment that shifted the momentum briefly in England’s favour.

Alongside Rahul, Pant added 141 important runs, which stabilized India’s innings. Later, Ravindra Jadeja contributed a valuable 72, helping to carry the momentum forward. Despite wickets falling at intervals, the Indian middle order showed resilience, with each batter playing their role to perfection. Their efforts ensured that India ended the innings with parity.

Fielding Brilliance and England’s Response

England showed their sharpness in the field, with Ben Stokes executing two outstanding run-outs—Pant and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy. Shoaib Bashir managed to dismiss Rahul right after his century, but had to leave the field later due to a finger injury.

Chris Woakes also chipped in with crucial wickets to contain India’s scoring. Jofra Archer made headlines by bowling his fastest Test over, clocking over 94 mph consistently, and creating problems for Indian batters.

At the close of play, England’s second innings was underway, and the scoreboard read 2 for 0, giving them a slender 2-run lead. A minor incident occurred when Zak Crawley delayed facing the final ball of the day, leading to some tension with the Indian team.

Day 3 belonged to KL Rahul, whose century at Lord’s will be remembered as a masterclass in temperament and technique. India’s strong middle-order display allowed them to draw level with England’s total. As the match heads into Day 4, the Test remains delicately balanced, promising more drama and intensity.
